Vienna Design Week turns Vienna into a hotspot for design every year – this year’s event will be the 18th in its history. In collaboration with Vienna's museums, production companies, and local designers, the festival offers various ways to approach the topic of design: as part of events, exhibitions, installations, guided tours, and workshops. The focus is on the diverse creative output that the local design scene is known for and ranges from product and furniture design to graphic and social design. Sustainability and the circular economy are becoming increasingly important topics at Vienna Design Week.

In the spotlight: the 3rd district.

The district in focus for this year is the 3rd district, which contains residential, commercial and industrial zones. This year’s festival will be based in the docks of the Village im Dritten development project. The docks building stretches along the Landstraßer Gürtel
(between Landstraßer Hauptstraße and Adolf-Blamauer-Gasse). This is where exhibitions, talks and workshops will take place. There will also be a pop-up café at the festival HQ.

Handicraft in focus

Vienna Design Week casts light on the production processes of design and handicraft. Studio visits and tours to production sites are therefore an important component of the festival. The Passionswege format is also exciting, as it brings together international and Austrian designers with Viennese artisans. This year’s event is being sponsored by the Vienna Tourist Board. Two businesses in the focus district are at the heart of this year’s Passionswege: Designer Flora Lechner was invited to collaborate with glassware manufacturer Lobmeyr, whose workshop is located in the 3rd district. French designer Alexandre Delasalle is also working in collaboration with the Lubach engraving studio.

Vienna Design Week is also dedicated to the topic of "Urban Food & Design". Practical design solutions for the urban food industry will be developed in collaboration with companies. Almost every event and format at Vienna Design Week is free of charge to make the festival accessible to everyone.
