On a shopping spree with Freud

Correspondence à la Freud

Sigmund Freud liked to buy his writing paper at Huber & Lerner, a traditional company selling high-quality stationery, which can still be found in Vienna city center. Freud most preferred to write his letters on the Edelpost collection, which is still available today. This collection was later used as the basis for the design of an Edelpost letter card set bearing the portrait of Freud and quotes in his typical handwriting. An authentic replica of Sigmund Freud's personal notepad, which he always took with him on his travels, can also be purchased at Huber & Lerner.

A fragrance in Freud's footsteps

In Freud's interpretation of dreams, wood stands for the sexual urge and specifically for the female breast. What's more, the perfume "Freudian Wood" refers to the small fragrance manufactory "Wiener Blut". The spicy-milky unisex fragrance with a warm, wood note at its heart is a complex and highly characterful fragrance. Available at www.wienerblut.at/shop and at Kussmund, Stattgarten, J. & L. Lobmeyr, St. Charles Cosmothecary (addresses at the end of the story).

Freud for the wall

The iconic photograph of Freud holding a cigar inspired the Viennese artist Julia Faber to come up with her personal interpretation entitled "Your Primal Urges Are Weighing You Down" (in German: Ihre primären Bedürfnisse belasten Sie) in 2016. Limited and signed prints of the artwork can be purchased from Vienna Art Box (locations) and at the annual Supermarket of Art.

Souvenirs from the Freud Museum

The shop in the Sigmund Freud Museum naturally has an extensive range of Freud souvenirs and gimmicks. Notebooks, writing sets, bath ducks, pillboxes and neurosis cleaning sponges are available in store and in the webshop.

Freudian slips

No, Freudian slips aren't undergarments. A Freudian slip describes an unintentional error regarded as revealing subconscious feelings. The term is also used to refer to the sticky notes with the Freud cover, available from the souvenir shop Hamtil & Söhne. But there's much more about Freud to discover there, too.
