The 5 best LGBTIQ+ locations
Café Savoy
The Savoy is one of Vienna's oldest and most beautiful LGBTIQ+ locations and is not one to be missed. The Savoy has been around since 1897. How it looks inside: Opulant interiors, golden chandeliers, detailed ornementation and huge mirrors are reminiscent of imperial splendour. You'll be in good hands here no matter the time of day. And the best thing: The Savoy is directly next to the Naschmarkt. It is therefore perfect for a quick pitstop or as a place to watch the world go by. The best place to observe the lively hustle and bustle is from the cafe's outdoor dining area.
Löwenherz Bookshop
The legendary bookshop in Vienna's 9th district has offered reading material for LGBTIQ+ people for more than 30 years. With more than 15,000 titles, the range of books is so extensive that you could easily spend several weeks there. Foreign-language literature is also available to buy. The team consists of experts who will be happy to help you navigate the selection.
Heidi Horten Collection
The permanent exhibition “Klimt ⮂ Warhol - Modern Masterpieces: Empowering Minds, Inspiring Hearts” shows visitors' favorite works. These are highlights of 20th and 21st century art history. For example, works by Andy Warhol, Gustav Klimt, René Magritte, Francis Bacon and Marc Chagall are on display (picture below: Le Clown au Bouquet, 1970-74).
Marea Alta
The Marea Alta is a one-of-a-kind bar in Vienna. Nowhere else is more colorful and alternative. Whether it's a drag show, DJ night or karaoke, the atmosphere is always on point. At the Marea Alta you can immerse yourself in Vienna's community and enjoy a wonderful evening.
Kaiserbründl Men's Sauna
If you fancy a hot sauna infusion after a night of partying in Vienna, the Kaiserbründl Men's Sauna is the place to be. The imperial ambience is particularly worth experiencing. Even one of the Habsburgs used to be a regular here: Archduke Ludwig Viktor (called "Luziwuzi"), the youngest brother of Emperor Franz Josephs, enjoyed himself in the Kaiserbündl. But he once overdid it a bit, receiving a slap in the face for being a bit too "affectionate".
