Hats and other smart head coverings have been produced by Mühlbauer by hand since 1903. Mühlbauer is one of the most important traditional companies in Vienna to make the leap into the modern era and dust off the image of millinery. Today, the company produces hats of every variety as well as caps, hoods and hair bands. Japan is the main sales market. Internationally, the head coverings are popular with stars such as Brad Pitt, Madonna, Meryl Streep and Yoko Ono.

Fashionable millinery has been sold in the Mühlbauer flagship store in Vienna city center since 2005. The shop was designed by architect duo of Kühn Malvezzi, which is famous for its breathtaking design of the Berlinische Galerie. In 2014, Mühlbauer is celebrating the company’s 111th anniversary with the book "111 Darlings - A Hat Book", published by Metroverlag. The company is now under fourth generation management. In spring 2015, Mühlbauer opened a second shop on Neubaugasse in the trendy 7th district.
