Künstlerhaus

The Künstlerhaus was built on Karlsplatz in 1868. The Künstlerhaus has shone in new splendor since 2020 and shows that it remains a vibrant center of Vienna's cultural landscape to this day. Apart from the traditional exhibition house, the Künstlerhausverein founded in 1861 also accommodates the "Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus" and the museum Albertina modern.

New old splendor

It is a place of dialog, discourse and the presentation of contemporary art. And the name says it all because the Künstlerhaus is made by and for artists. After a three-year pause for refurbishment, it returned to Karlsplatz at the beginning of 2020 to show exhibitions as well as a diverse supporting and educational program that focuses on creative works on an area of around 900 m². The association is also concerned about making contemporary art accessible to everyone.

The new event spaces "Factory" (200 m²) and "Salon Karlsplatz" (the former Ranftlzimmer) expand the offering. In addition to supporting events on the exhibition, and international film series at the Stadtkino im Künstlerhaus, there are regular DJ line-ups and pop concerts. The art hungry can get their fill at Ludwig und Adele.

In addition, a new museum of contemporary art has moved into the Künstlerhaus: the Albertina modern shows the greats of Austrian art as well as international artists in temporary exhibitions.
