Air travel to Vienna with Austrian Airlines

The Austrian company Austrian Airlines with its headquarters in Vienna has over 60 years of experience in aviation and is part of the German Lufthansa Group, Europe’s largest airline group. Austrian Airlines also joins 26 other airlines as a member of the Star Alliance aviation network and participates in the Miles & More frequent flyer program.

The aircraft fleet currently consists of 62 airplanes: Nine airplanes of the Boeing 767 and 777 types are in service for the long-distance flights. On short- and medium-distance routes, 53 airplanes of the Airbus A320 Family and Embraer 195 types are used. The youngest member of the fleet is the Airbus A320 neo, which isn’t only quieter, more fuel-efficient and economical than comparable airplanes of older generations, it also offers an innovative spatial concept.

Flight tickets can be booked in the classes Business Class and Economy Class. The Premium Economy class is additionally available for long distances. This travel class appeals to anyone who would like a little more comfort and service on long-distance trips while still traveling at a reasonable price. The centerpiece of this category is a seat specifically designed for the Lufthansa Group, which offers more legroom and comfort than seats in Economy Class.

Cuisine up above the clouds

Good food and drinks are also enjoyed in the air. On all Austrian long-distance flights and European flights in Business Class, passengers can indulge in the multiple award-winning menu creations from Do & Co.

On European flights with a duration of up to three hours, guests in the Economy Class can choose meals from the high-quality “Austrian Melangerie” offer.

The menu ranges from Wiener Schnitzel to classics from the Viennese pastry tradition, such as Kaiserschmarren and apple strudel. Of course this is best enjoyed with a cup of coffee – the Viennese Melange. Passengers can preorder  their meal of choice or select it from the menu directly on board. The board personnel will handle the payment.

Digital services – Austrian app

The free Austrian app offers perfect digital travel support to passengers, from booking and check-in all the way to landing. Flight bookings on the entire route network of the Lufthansa Group can also be made conveniently via the Austrian app. Additional services such as baggage bookings at Austrian, Brussels, Lufthansa and SWISS or seat reservations are also available on the app. Users proactively receive relevant information via their cell phones. There are push notifications in case of flight schedule changes, for example, or real-time information on the baggage status, and users can even access the Austrian Melangerie offer and e-journals.

From the airport to the city center and back

Welcome to the Vienna airport! You can find useful information about your arrival at the airport in Vienna and how to get to the city center on the pages about the airport and in the overview of the airport connections.

For departure, Austrian Airlines passengers can use the self-service check-in at the City Air Terminal in the city center. In combination with a ticket for the airport express train, the City Airport Train (CAT), flight passengers can check their own luggage at the City Air Terminal in Vienna’s city center and travel comfortably to the airport with only their carry-on bags.

Lounges

A good way to spend the time before take-off is to relax in one of the six spacious and modern Austrian Business Lounges. Travelers can expect an assorted selection of food and drinks, free WiFi, TV, separate relaxation zones and much more. If you have a Vienna City Card, you can enjoy a 10% discount on the current lounge rate.

Contributing to climate protection

Austrian Airlines is aiming to cut its net CO2 emissions in half by 2030 compared to 2019 and to be completely carbon-neutral by 2050. The airline is focusing on the continuous optimization of the flight operations, fleet modernization and the use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF).

Austrian Airlines passengers can contribute to CO2 reduction or compensation with just one click every time they book on austrian.com. Three options are available right before a flight booking is completed:

  • Use of sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) for a direct reduction of the CO2 emissions
  • Compensation for the CO2 emissions through Climate Austria’s protection projects
  • Combination of both of these options

Detailed information on this can be found on the website of Austrian Airlines.
