Free travel for children and discounts

  • Children up to the age of six can travel free of charge. Children and young people under the age of 15 can use the Vienna public transport network free of charge on Sundays and public vacations, during the Vienna school vacations and on November 2 and 15.
  • There are discounted one-way tickets at €1.50 per journey for people aged 65 and over.
  • Dogs (muzzled and on a lead) can only be taken on public transport with a valid, discounted ticket at €1.20.

Validating tickets

Most tickets (timed tickets) must be validated before the journey begins in order to be valid. There are blue ticket validation machines at the entrances to subway and S-Bahn stations. Please insert the ticket into the validating machine with the text side facing up until you hear a beep. In streetcars and buses, tickets must be validated in the vehicle itself.

Wiener Linien carries out regular ticket inspections on public transport and in subway exit areas. Please therefore keep hold of your valid ticket until you reach your destination.

Area of validity

Wiener Linien tickets are generally valid for the Vienna core zone. An additional one-way ticket into the Vienna core zone must be purchased for journeys to and from the airport. Tickets for the direct City Airport Train and the Vienna Airport Lines airport buses must be purchased from the respective provider. You can find more information on the Getting to the airport page.
