Kan Zuo

The Sign Lounge

Kan Zuo came to Vienna aged 14 and should actually have become a doctor, if his father had had his way. He had to earn his pocket-money working in a Chinese restaurant. That is how he came into contact with the restaurant trade and later attended barkeeper school. Since then, his biggest dream was to have his own cocktail bar.

He was already very near to the dream of having his own bar, when he wanted to set one up with a business partner on the present site of his The Sign Lounge. However, the supposed partner simply took off with all the money. Despite this, Kan Zuo didn't give up and continued to run the establishment with the support of his wife Bobo and his family, initially as a café, restaurant and bar. To save money, Kan Zuo and his wife even used to stay overnight in the office.

Award-winning cocktail bar

The Sign Lounge later became a cocktail bar. Kan Zuo understands better than anyone else how to create particularly creative and sophisticated drinks. Both in terms of the ingredients and the way in which the drinks are served. It is quite possible for a cocktail to look like a paint pallet here. The joy of experimentation paid off: The Sign Lounge was voted best bar in Austria twice in row by the internationally respected Mixology Magazine. And its friendly operator Kan Zuo was voted Bartender of the Year 2015 by Falstaff Magazine. Kan Zuo also won the competition held by the Vienna Tourist Board for the invention of the Ringstrasse Cocktail on the occasion of the Ringstrasse anniversary in 2015.
