Here our editorial team will reveal our favorite events and what we think are the most beautiful Strauss locations – condensed into a top five per season. After all, the choice is huge – in the Strauss anniversary year there will be a premiere every week and many venues have historical associations with Strauss.

Winter/spring (January – March 2025)

1. The Queen’s Lace Handkerchief (Das Spitzentuch der Königin), January 18-28, 2025: Strauss operetta at its world premiere venue, the MusikTheater an der Wien (recently renovated!)
2. Visit to a Viennese ball: Party the night away at one of Vienna’s 450 balls – in the style of court ball music director Johann Strauss.
3. Waltz through time on Vienna’s Giant Ferris Wheel, one Sunday in each month of 2025: Travel through time accompanied by the music of Johann Strauss
4. Thunder and Lightning (Blitz und Donner), January 25 – February 25, 2025: This play at the Odeon finds answers to love letters by Johann Strauss, with musical accompaniment.
5. Johann Strauss – The Exhibition, December 4, 2024 – June 23, 2025: classical Strauss exhibition at the Theater Museum

Spring/early summer (April – June 2025)

1. Johann Strauss. New Dimensions (permanent exhibition): new immersive and high-tech multimedia experience
2. Fledermaustag, April 5, 2025: themed day on the Strauss operetta “Die Fledermaus” at the MuseumsQuartier
3. LichtStrauss in the Stadtpark, March 21 – May 25, 2025: walk-in light artwork inspired by courageous women from Strauss’ operettas (contemporary multimedia performances)
4. Red Bull Symphonic – Johann Strauss 2025 Edition, June 20, 2025: Open air concert at the Danube Island Festival – Camo & Krooked, Christian Kolonovits and the Wiener Symphoniker put a whole new spin on Strauss. Free admission!
5. Prater Picnic by the Wiener Symphoniker, June 26-27, 2025: Strauss takes center stage at the free open-air concert in the shadow of the Giant Ferris Wheel.

Summer (July – September 2025)

1. House of Strauss: Strauss center with a museum and concerts. Historical Strauss performance venue.
2. Danube: What would summer be without cooling off “on the beautiful blue Danube”? This is also the title of Johann Strauss’ most famous waltz. Let’s go swimming, boating and relaxing on the Old Danube and on the Danube Island – with a Strauss playlist in our ears.
3. House of Music: conduct the Danube Waltz with the “Virtual Conductor”
4. Strauss Monument: The golden statue in the green Stadtpark is a must-see and an unbeatable photo opportunity. 
5. Cagliostro – Johann Strauss at the Circus, September 10-28, 2025: A musical circus spectacle to the sound of Strauss melodies in the tent of the Circus Theater Roncalli on Heumarkt. Script: Thomas Brezina

Autumn/winter (October – December 2025)

1. Johann Strauss Audio Walk in the free city guide app, ivie: explore eleven Strauss locations in Vienna at your leisure – where the music star lived and performed, where he got married. Featuring music by the Vienna Johann Strauss Orchestra. Available all year round!
2. Johann Strauss Apartment on Praterstraße: Strauss’ apartment preserved in its original condition and boasting plenty of flair
3. 200th Birthday of Johann Strauss II, October 25, 2025: Birthday celebration at Vienna City Hall, Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the Vienna Music Society, “One Night in Venice” at the Vienna Volksoper
4. Johann Strauss’ tomb: Final resting place alongside many other music stars. There’s much more besides at the Central Cemetery: natural surroundings, architecture, the Funeral Museum, a coffee house...
5. The Shadows of Doubt – Inside the Mind of Genius, January 3 – December 31, 2025: artistically designed escape room
