Schloss Hof
Schloss Hof Estate
Schloss Hof Estate, the former imperial country residence of Prince Eugene of Savoy and Maria Theresa is over 70 hectares in area, making it Austria's largest palace complex in the countryside. The imperial dream home of the former owners can be marveled at in the grand palace. Outside, there are magnificent Baroque gardens with splendid fountains and sculptures. In addition to the imperial palace, visitors can also explore the picturesque estate, the fun-filled adventure trails, a variety of themed gardens and see many rare breeds of domestic animals, as well as enjoy an adventure playground and the kids’ and family world with its new ball run and balance bike course. With its exhibitions and numerous events for the whole family, Schloss Hof is always worth a visit.
Special exhibition:
“Imperial Marriages” | 3.9. - 11.3.2024: The special exhibition showcases the various stages of imperial marriages, from courtship to widowhood. The elaborately orchestrated celebrations often concealed deeply moving stories. Habsburg marriages were rarely affairs of the heart.
Marriages between ruling dynasties were not just a union of two individuals, but of two dynasties. There was little room for love. Children of marriageable age were generally the playthings of politics and had little say in their choice of partner. The Schloss Hof part of the exhibition explores the criteria that an ideal bride or groom should fulfill and, above all, who was good enough for the Habsburg dynasty.

Schloss Niederweiden
Schloss Niederweiden belongs to the Schloss Hof Estate. The Baroque architectural jewel was built in 1693 by Johann Bernhard Fischer of Erlach and bought in 1726 by Prince Eugene of Savoy, who used it as a venue for lavish hunting parties. With the elegance of a French pleasure château and the charm of a stately northern Italian villa, it radiates a very special appeal. You can also enjoy the Baroque splendor of a hearty venison dish in the attached game kitchen.
In 2024, the idyllic hunting lodge will provide revealing insights into how imperial weddings unfolded as part of the special exhibition “Imperial Marriages”, from the pre-engagement arrangements to the arduous bridal journeys and the church wedding ceremony. The incredibly spectacular festivities with fireworks, opera performances, wedding banquets and enormous triumphal arches demonstrate that weddings were unrivalled as the most important events for imperial families.
