Gothic, Indian, and Arabian design vocabulary combined in a single building? Yes, Vienna also has that. The Geymüllerschlössel is located in Pötzleinsdorf, a part of the 18th district. The building commissioned by banker Johann Jakob Geymüller and constructed in 1808 combines different styles – right in line with the spirit of the age.

However, it isn't only the mix of styles, which is actually typical of the early 19th century, that makes the building special. The little palace, in its parkland setting, is part of the MAK – Museum of Applied Arts, Vienna, and a place of amazing artistic contrasts. Because on the one hand, the museum branch is one of the few places in Austria where an authentic interior from the Biedermeier period is retained; and the building houses a unique collection of historic clocks. And on the other, you can also see some fantastic contemporary artworks by national and international greats here.

The combination of stylistic contrasts is particularly apparent here in the grounds, where fans of contemporary art are really in for a treat. The installation "Skyspace The Other Horizon" by James Turrell is situated in the grounds of the manor house as a permanent installation. The artwork plays with the effects of natural light. The best time to marvel at the installation? In the 90 minutes before sunset. 

Tram line 41, which starts on the Ringstrasse boulevard (Schottentor), brings visitors to Pötzleinsdorf after a ride through the west of Vienna. There's just one drawback: Geymüllerschlössel only opens on Saturdays and Sundays, from the beginning of May to the beginning of December.
