What to do when it rains in Vienna?

Extraordinary museums, unique shops, modern cultural delights, and lots of enjoyment mean you'll soon forget all about the rain in Vienna. Our tip for a rainy day: Short distances and good planning – we're happy to help with this and provide inspiration for activities in the 7th district.

Morning: Breakfast & Sisi

Breakfast is the perfect way to start the day: In the heart of the 6th district is Café Jelinek, one of Vienna's traditional coffee houses. The perfect place for an extensive breakfast and good mood, even without the sun. The Furniture Museum in the 7th district is the next tip for dull weather. Be inspired by masterpieces of furniture design and historic furniture for your own four walls. A focal point of the exhibition are the imperial pieces of furniture of the Habsburgs and the film props of the Sisi film series.

Instant tip for when it's raining: Umbrellas & rainwear

The Gummistiefelhaus (Rubber Boot House) is actually in the 8th district, but definitely belongs on this list. You'll get not only really fashionable rubber boots there, but simply everything you need for a nice rainy day. In the heart of Neubaugasse, the little store Handschuh am Neubau sells gloves as well as a well-stocked selection of small and large umbrellas. A hat also doesn't go amiss in this weather, ideally one handmade by Mühlbauer.

Afternoon: Feasting, shopping & coffee outdoors

Hungry already? The 7th district is also popular for its vegetarian and vegan offering. The LaLa on Neustiftgasse serves up vegan superfood California-style. In the unusual café Calienna with integrated specialist plant shop, the air is heavy with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and exotic plants. Another way to while away the afternoon is convivial trend shopping along Neubaugasse or Kirchengasse. As an alternative (or for Sundays and holidays), the photo gallery WestLicht invites you to visit its varied exhibitions.

Evening: Beisl & exotic cocktails

Hunger of every size is satisfied in the Amerlingbeisl bistro with Viennese classics like roast dumplings with egg or organic beef goulash. After the meal, a walk downhill to the MuseumsQuartier does you good. We round off the evening there at one of the many events. The Theater an der Wien has its performance venue in the MuseumsQuartier while the theater is being remodeled. Or what about a cocktail in one of Vienna's trendy cocktail bars?
