Sissi in the movies

The "Sissi" movies formed the movie landscape of the 1950s as deeply as the image of Empress Elisabeth (correctly spelled Sisi) who became a cult figure. The Vienna Furniture Museum presents a permanent exhibition with an insight behind the scenes of the movie production.

The reason is that neither Schönbrunn Palace nor the Imperial Palace was available for the interior scenes of these films. They were shot largely at the Rosenhügel studios by director Ernst Marischka – with genuine imperial furniture, which provided the films with the appropriate authenticity. Film excerpts, props, photos, and posters along a Sisi Path through the museum confront the movie "Sissi" with her historical model, Sisi.
