Vienna’s new hotels: From the Ringstrasse to districts in the heart of Vienna
The Amauris Vienna: as beautiful as a butterfly
The new luxury boutique hotel The Amauris Vienna opened in a prominent location on the Ringstrasse in February 2023. The artsy hotel is the first in Vienna to be part of the Relais & Chateaux luxury hotel and restaurant association – a grouping of independent hotels and restaurants that offer exquisite cuisine and high-quality personal service. The name Amauris refers to a species of butterfly that shimmers in black and white and is known for its elegant appearance.
The hotel has been designed to be correspondingly luxurious and dignified, offering 62 rooms, 17 of which are suites. Wood and marble are the dominant materials. A total of 160 tons of marble were used in The Amauris Vienna, which is located just a few minutes’ walk from the State Opera and the Musikverein.
One of the highlights of the hotel is the cuisine. Viennese culinary tradition is maintained and interpreted in a modern way at the Glasswing restaurant. Original works of art from the private collection of the hotel’s owner family provide a lot of atmosphere here. The exquisitely designed bedrooms are also furnished with carefully curated artworks that are in keeping with the establishment’s motto: “Explore beauty”.
Almanac Palais Vienna: pure palace feeling
A superlative of a hotel in the form of the Almanac Palais Vienna on Vienna’s Parkring has been taking guests since mid-March 2023 and is only the second Almanac hotel ever after Barcelona. This is where contemporary design meets Vienna’s imperial history. Two adjoining palaces were lavishly adapted to create the hotel: the Palais Henkel von Donnersmarck and the Palais Leitenberger, both completed in 1872 during the heyday of Ringstrasse construction. The Almanac Palais Vienna offers 80 suites and 31 rooms, many with direct views over the greenery of Vienna’s Stadtpark. Stately chandeliers and remarkable architectural details and tapestries create a special atmosphere that underlines Vienna’s character as an important city of art and culture.
The in-house Restaurant Donnersmarkt also focuses on the unusual in the form of “plant-forward cuisine”, offering menus that focus on local and seasonal vegetables. Meat and fish are seen as delicious side dishes. In the middle of the restaurant, a long table invites diners to try their hand at the latest trend in culinary enjoyment: food sharing.
The Almanac Palais Vienna is also a great venue for meetings and conferences of all kinds. There are ten meeting and event spaces in total, all equipped with modern technology. The absolute highlight is the glass-roofed atrium of the hotel, which offers space for meetings and celebrations with up to 150 people.
O11 Boutique Hotel: built on music
The O11 Boutique Hotel opened in the fall of 2022 and is located just a few steps from the Vienna State Opera and the historic Burggarten. All the stops are pulled out for contemporary hotels and urban lifestyle here on Vienna’s Opernring. The O11 Boutique Hotel has 52 luxuriously designed rooms and suites that promise a special Vienna experience. The look of this Ringstrasse hotel is defined by extensive use of wood, marble and textiles.
The President Suite in particular offers something extraordinary and is the perfect place for music enthusiasts: this suite of rooms is fitted with a music sound system, including a DJ booth. Music is literally the foundation of the hotel: the basement is home to Heidi – a club with chalet-inspired design features and perfect for afficionados of exquisite sparkling wine. The hotel is also home to countless works of art that underscore the fact that Vienna is a European cultural hotspot. Major museums and exhibition spaces such as the Albertina are located just around the corner from the hotel.
Urbanauts Studios Fillgrader: where a hotel meets the theater
Want to stay in a former theater? With the opening of the Urbanauts Studios Fillgrader in June 2023, visitors to Vienna can now make this a reality. The building, located in Vienna’s trendy inner district of Mariahilf, was once home to the Interkulttheater. Now visitors to Vienna can choose from 14 different apartments in three different sizes (Cozy Studio: 25m², Comfy Studio: 30m², Spacy Studio: 35m²). The establishment offers both one-story and maisonette studios. A cozy ambience with timeless furnishings and generous facilities awaits. Every apartment has its own small kitchenette.
The original use of the building has also been incorporated into the design of Urbanauts Studios Fillgrader. Theater props decorate the aisles. They are reminiscent of the backstage areas of a theater. Various accessories associated with theatrical professions can be found in the rooms: there are dancers’ ballet shoes as well as collections of directors’ manuscripts. It is the ideal place for a theater-themed weekend in Vienna.
Moxy Vienna City East - discover the East of Vienna
With the Moxy Vienna City East, the Marriott Group opened the second Vienna location of its young urban boutique hotel line at the end of 2023 – the first Moxy Hotel was opened at Vienna Airport. Moxy hotels are known for their hip design. The spirit of the times is very much present here, which is also reflected in the shared use of the building. In addition to the 203 Moxy rooms, 43 long-stay apartments operated by Residence Inn by Marriott also await at Moxy Vienna City East.
The hotel is located in Neu Marx, an urban development area in Vienna that is also home to the Marx Hall – a striking listed former cattle hall that is now an important event venue in the city. Vienna’s St. Stephen’s Cathedral is just five subway stops away from the Moxy Vienna City East (line U3). A new event arena for concerts and sporting events capable of seating 20,000 people will be built in the immediate vicinity of the hotel over the next few years.
The Hoxton Vienna - a lively establishment with a vision
Vienna’s hotel scene can expect something extraordinary in the spring of 2024: the Hoxton Group will open its first hotel in Vienna with The Hoxton Vienna. The group, which focuses on major North American and European cities when choosing its locations, is known for its open-house concept: the Hoxton Hotels see themselves as a reflection of the districts in which they are situated, inspired by the diversity and uniqueness of the neighborhoods that surround them. Local residents will be specifically encouraged to use the publicly accessible areas.
The Hoxton Group has chosen a jewel of mid-century architecture for its Vienna location, which will offer nearly 200 rooms. The eight-story building with a listed façade dates back to the 1950s and is located just a few steps away from Vienna’s Stadtpark. There will certainly be plenty going on here: the Hoxton Vienna will feature a basement bar as well as a restaurant with a guest garden, a sandwich shop and a rooftop bar with views overlooking the historic city center.
The Hoxton Vienna will also be an ideal venue for meetings, seminars and conferences. Several meeting rooms and a dedicated event space invite guests to hold events of all kinds in a unique environment.
