The Sigmund Freud Challenge: a playful way to discover Vienna
Sigmund Freud is a cult figure from Vienna who has left a lasting impression all over the world – in pop culture as much as in psychology. He was a pioneering thinker who made a major contribution to our modern understanding of humanity. That’s something to celebrate: ivie, the city guide app for Vienna, offers a special opportunity to use a smartphone to playfully follow in the footsteps of Sigmund Freud with your smartphone with the Sigmund Freud Challenge.
The challenge involves visiting special places in Vienna that played an important role in the life and work of Sigmund Freud. This is how it works: In order to score points for the challenge, you have to check-in digitally at 6 locations across Vienna with your smartphone and correctly answer 3 quiz questions for each location.

Exclusive prizes await: Each month, 30 Sigmund Freud stationery sets will be raffled off among all the participants who achieve the minimum number of points. The set is modeled on the original stationery used by Sigmund Freud. You need to score maximum points in order to be eligible for the main prize. The main prize is a weekend in Vienna for two people at the legendary Hotel Stefanie – the oldest hotel in Vienna. Here’s a tip for you: If you want to get all the questions right first time, listen to the Sigmund Freud Audio Guide, which is also available on ivie.
Must-visit locations
There are many places in Vienna with a strong connection to Sigmund Freud. There is the Sigmund Freud Museum at Berggasse 19, where Freud lived and had his practice, for example. The Sigmund Freud Challenge also takes us to Freud’s favorite coffee house, Café Landtmann. The Josephinum, a museum that chronicles the exciting history of medicine in Vienna, is also part of the tour, as are Sigmund Freud Park, the University of Vienna and the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH), where Sigmund Freud worked as a doctor as a young man.
These 6 locations must be visited if you want to score maximum points. It is not necessary to enter the museums, institutions or coffee house to complete the check-in. The check-in will work within a distance of 100 meters from the locations.
